Online Therapy

Same OT, delivered differently

Dear Families,

The team at Paediatric Potentials are trying our best to keep everyone safe.

The message from the Qld Government was clear – Stay at home and limit the spread of the virus. We continue to operate as an Essential Health Service and are responding accordingly with understanding and consideration for how we can continue to support our families during this time.

We appreciate that this is a challenging time for everyone particularly the young ones that we provide OT to, and that the support that we provide at the moment looks different, as this is a different period of time.

We offer many different modes of therapy delivery during normal times and lockdowns such as Zoom sessions, parent phone calls, writing of letters/reports, parent coaching, OT goal setting/review and home programs. The current lockdown provides a perfect opportunity for our therapists to engage with your child in a way they may not be used to and help them through this time of change and especially, the conversion to home schooling. We can help to break down the sudden change into smaller manageable parts so children can cope better with the dramatic shifts in their lives, caused by this lockdown.

We have provided multiple alternate therapy options so we can continue to assist you and your children while they are at home.  Our therapists are skilled professionals, who are well equipped to help you and your child with these altered OT delivery method. Each of the options available take a slightly different approach, while working towards the same goals.

Home Programs:

Home programs are a great resource to have on hand to keep working on the skills your child has been working towards during their face-to-face therapy sessions. You can read more about a home program here: https://paediatricpotentials.com.au/home-program.

Zoom Call:

A Zoom call is a great way for your child’s OT to see your child in their home setting. We can connect with your child and engage with them while they are in their own space. It’s easy to think a zoom call is not going to work for your child however, many parents see it as a great opportunity to gain further insight and identify ways to fine tune their OT strategies to be focused on the challenges in the environment they spend most of their time at the moment, their home.

Now more than ever it is important to have the emotional and social strategies in place to help our children through uncertain times.

The Paediatric Potentials team are still here for you and the therapy is still the same. The delivery method might look different, but just for this period of time.

We would like to thank you for continuing to support us during this time so we can continue to support you in the months and years to come.

Kind Regards,

Gabby Smith
